Although these can be found in the UK , the advent of modern central heating has made it extremely rare for them to infest warm houses in the UK . If you find the small holes in timber that are the characteristic evidence of woodworm, it is probable that the woodworm has moved on if the timber is dry. However, infestations do still occur with larvae of the beetle burrowing into unprotected timber. In extreme cases, timbers can become severely weakened and furniture may be attacked, particularly at the joints.
