House Mouse

Mus domesticus

This is arguably the most successful rodent in the world. Significantly smaller than the Rat, the House Mouse is also common throughout Britain. Although mainly a house dweller, it may live outside for all or part of the year but does not live in sewers. Mice are the most underrated climbers in the animal kingdom and can climb a sheer brick wall. If you can fit a plastic biro under a door, a mouse can squeeze under as well! Incontinent and highly mobile, they spread urine wherever they go, including kitchen worktops! They also produce up to 80 droppings per day. As rodents, they have to gnaw often, thus presenting a fire hazard through damage to electrical installations. They may also damage plastic water pipes as well as wooden timbers. Mice have a characteristic odour and infestations can be accurately identified very quickly by Acclaim.
