FleasOrder Siphonaptera Don't worry; they're more common than you might think. Fleas are a very distinct insect, with laterally flattened bodies and colours ranging from greyish to deep brown. Although approximately 60 species of Flea in the UK, there are five prominent pest species, with the most common being the Cat Flea. The larvae eat all kinds of dust, detritus and dead insects, while the adult is parasitic and feeds on animal blood. There is little evidence to suggest that the Cat Flea can transmit any serious illness to humans despite their bites. However, they are extremely irritating and distressing to have in the building. There may often be no Flea infestation in the building! The carpets have often acquired a static charge that causes microscopic particles of dust to shoot from the carpet, which puncture a person's skin.
